The biggest thing in my career, thus far, has happened and I am elated!
Over the summer it was brought to my attention that Adobe Lightroom was looking for 10 photographers to feature on their blog and Instagram feed, sharing their stories and experiences as photographers. This was in June when I was in Germany. Excited about the opportunity, but also surrounded by self-doubt, I pushed myself to apply.
We were instructed to send in photo samples, bios, and answer a variety of questions about photography and postproduction process. I sent in my images and deep down felt that there are so many talented photographers out here, there’s no way I would be selected, especially considering that they are only looking for 10. But due to recent birthday promises to myself, I took the time to carefully select my images, plan some shoots, and really focus on what I wanted the world to see of myself.
After weeks of not hearing anything I was sure that they had selected 10 great photographers, and I was not one of them. Until I received an email while out enjoying my döner and exploring Nuremburg, Germany. I was stopped in my tracks…speechless. I was shocked to know that I was selected! Me. Empty Canon is now an Adobe Rising Star and I get to showcase my work on Adobe Lightroom’s platform. I was grateful, overjoyed, and honestly, could not believe it.
The reality had not sunk in until I saw my images on September 20th. Thousands of likes and new followers came rolling in and I felt like I had finally accomplished something major. Not because of the likes, but because now, people outside of my Instagram platform can see my work and give me some legitimate feedback, I mean these people follow Adobe Lightroom, so they must have some sort of aesthetically sound and visually-pleasing eyes.
